In our experience, there are three key reasons at the heart of why a young person may disengage from mainstream schooling:
EDUCATION: They’ve had difficulties with school work (particularly numeracy or literacy) or an inability to function well within an institutional school setting (ie. lack of interest in the educational content; social isolation from bullying).
PSYCHO-SOCIAL: Wellbeing issue may exist that are caused by dysfunctional family dynamics or the condition of their social environment (ie. poverty, unemployment).
VOCATIONAL: An inability to aim for, or engage with, employment opportunities and a future career.
